Ok, I've read for two days, then took two days to think about it (which means: go to work and surf the net for fanarts and reviews while doodling littles does on every document I'm supposed to work with.)
(If my boss ever reads this: no, I was really working, that was just during my 10 minutes break, really)
Well...
I loved the book. I was a bit afraid it would be disappointing, and if it was not perfect, it still was a great read, I couldn't put it down, and it was like "Harry Potter All Stars" with every secondary character coming back, which was wonderful.
What I didn't like:
- The long Trio Camping phase. It reminded me a lot of the journey of Sam and Frodo in LOTR: boring, uneventful, more boring, nothing happens, and more boring, until they finally arrive somewhere. They even had a cursed artefact that made them go evil, just like the Ring. I felt it was there just to delay the story so that the final confrontation could happen at the end of the schoolyear like always. And so that they could go to the important places on Halloween and on Christmas and for the Easter Break. Come on. They could have finished the quest in two months. -_-
- The epilogue that doesn't say much. Okay, we have two married couples, and a bazillion more or less ridiculous baby names. And, oh, one job, Neville's. That's not enough information here, I want a book with all the info about the after-Voldy period and what did everyone do for a living, etc...
- Harry's children's names. He took all the names of the dead people that were important to him and voilà! Poor kids. Poor Ginny, it doesn't look like she had a say in this, where's Fred Junior or whatever her own dead friends and family's names are? Frankly, James Potter Junior, son of Harry James Potter? That's sooooooo lame. And Albus looking exactly like his father and grandfather? Are they reproducing or just cloning themselves magically?
- The Slytherins are still hated. WHY? I thought the story would be about unity against Evil, unity of all races (ok, that was done) and all Houses (not done). WHY WHY WHY? At least a couple Slytherins could have stayed in the end, but no, only the professors were good, the kids were all evil children of death eaters and not one of them belonged to the Neville's Army. And 19 years later nothing changed. I'm not a Slyth but I hoped she would show their good side...
- "Oh, yeah, we Crucio each other at school, and we're all bruised all the time, but that's ok dude". Since when do you accept that sort of things so easily and quickly? And then everyone Avada Kedavra's and Imperiuses everyone else without a second thought. Uh? It felt strange...
- Molly Weasley. I just hate that woman. I would hate her in real life.
What I liked:
- I laughed. Ron's "how to charm witches" guide, and all the sexual double-entendres, and the witty twins, and Potterwatch with the cheesy and easy to guess names. I didn't think I would laugh that much in a book where everyone was supposed to die.
- Kreacher. I would never have believed I would have liked him, but he's really adorable. One of the saddest moments for me was when they couldn't come back to Grimmault Place anymore, and I imagined him, with the food ready, waiting for them late in the night. Y_Y
- Dobby died! lol! Ok, he was cool, and I stopped hating him, and his burying was sad.
- The Malfoys. They were Makani's Malfoys and I loved that. XD Narcissa is cool, and Draco was so lost, poor kid.
- Dudley said something nice! Kingsley is cool! Luna is creepy but I love her! ^o^
- Neville is kakkoi!! *o* OMG Neville with the sword, Neville leader of the secret army, Neville could really have been the Prophecy child and he would have been better than Harry at that! XD Neville ftw!!
- Grindelwald! And Dumbly not being the perfect guy at all. Very human, I like him more now than before.
- The action. Very well done, and I feared for everyone's death, and there were lots of surprises (omg Bathilda).
- Hermione's bag. I always dreamed of one.
What I loved:
- Ron x Hermione. My OTP! ♥ And Ron saving Harry and destroying the Horcrux.
- Snape ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and more ♥
- Snape's backstory
- Snape's patronus
- Snape's death (well, at first Ididn't like it, I mean, bitten by a flying snake without having the time to move or say anything? -_- But then, he died with Harry watching, and Harry cleaned his name, it fits him better,
- Albus Severus (I had not cried at all during the book, I resisted, but the name and the explanation and the fact that it was the last page ever just destroyed my last resistance)
- Snape and Lily *before Hogwarts*. My theory was that he loved her, and that they were friends and that Petunia's "that boy" was him and not James, but it was even better that that. Poor Sev. Y_Y So cute! I don't blame Lily for not returning his feelings, he was kinda creepy anyway, but I'd still like to know what made her like that bastard James? One more book about the past, please, miss JKR?
- All the Snape fanarts on Lj and deviantart already. And the AS/S community (
One last word:
Thank you JK Rowling for five years and a half of Harry Potter (yes, I started late).
Thank you for creating my favourite character ever.
I'm going to read them again and again.
